Recently my engine took a crap. ITs getting fixed at a shop. (I didnt have alll the tools for the job.) I got my enging out and everything apart, cept the bottom end. Anyway its getting fixed and im also upgradeing some of it.

I ride at croom alot, thats my only real place to ride. I love the sand pit but also do go trail riding.

Heres my ??????

12.2:1 piston (stock bore). Good choice or no?
And what jet should i run with that lil higher compression?

I need a new front sprocket and chain. So should i get stock 14/40 tooth or should i get 13/40 tooth?

Thinking about lowering it with CRJ lowering kits. http://www.crjperformance.com/loweringkits.html
They look realy good. And adjustable rear hieght control.

OR even CMF racing kits.
http://www.cfmracing.com/ltz400.html
But they dont have the rear adjustability.

What should i do?
AANNNNY advice will be taken seriously.

Def. go with the 13t front sprocket. If you're not boring it, jetting should be the same. Remember high comp means higher wear and tear. What year is yours? I'm surprised you blew a 400. They're pretty bulletproof.

13 tooth, ok.
And its a 05. The guys at the shop think somethen broke in the tranny and is maken the knocking sound. They are supossed to look at it monday or tuesday. SOOO i pretty much took the engine apart for no reason. But hey i ordered a 12:1 piston. and im ordering a new 13tooth front 40 rear and a primary drive h gold racing chain. WHat else???

I wouldn't go with a lowering kit. It might lower the bike and get the center of gravity down but it isn't going to make the suspension work any better. You want to get the quad lower and make the suspension work too.

I think the '05 came with adjustable reservior shocks on the front. If you are still running stock shocks, send your front and rear shocks to GT Thunder and have them spring and valve them for your riding style and weight. A lot of people that race in FTR send their shocks there to be reworked. GT Thunder knows how to set them up for the whoops and sand down here.

They have a complete package for the Z400 that includes a new rear link and dual rate springs for the front. It lowers the bike all around and the shocks work a lot better.

I had mine done and it's a day and night difference. Not sure what your budget is but it's worth every penny and much cheaper than buying aftermarket suspension.

Check them out at http://www.gtthunder.com

WOW i never thought about that. SO What do they do that helps the shocks? Just rebuild them or use better parts? And i have adjustable front and rear. so... Should i send them all in? And does it lower the bike or just leave it stock hight when u get them done? And do i tell them i ride at croom its all sandy trails and whoops?

Yes it will lower the bike. They re-spring it and revalve it for your weight cheap and best alternitive. Its amazing how many people have swiched.

I have custom axis and ars-fx arms on my 05 and payed twice as much and it dosn't even ride as good.

Well i talked to the mechanic worken on my bike today. He found a little metal piece in the engine. THinks its a tooth to somethen. NOt from the tranny tho. Hes still inspecting it. SO hopefully soon, ill have the engine back and get riding again.

Im also not getting the 13 tooth gear. Just stay stock. But buying upgraded oem parts.

SOOO hopefully ill be seeing u guys back in the trails soon.

Not meaning to hijack this thread. I figure it is on tha same issue.
My friend bought a Z400 for the wife.(yeah-right!!! We'll get him out on the race course!)
He said the first thing he noticed was the high CG. He bought a Dura-Blue wheel spacer kit thinking this was the answer, but now will have a harder time slipping through the trees at speed.
I steered him to Laz. Will this help the high CG feeling and help keep it from feeling so tippy?

The GT thunder package that Laz has for the Z400 helps a lot with the tippy feeling. The rear link lowers it an inch. The the shock setup adds sag which lowers it a little more.
