Yep its going again on the FTR board, the quads are bad.

Its been mentioned several times about quads having there own weekend. That to me would be great. We could add mini quads and maybe explore into utility quads. Anything to make ATV racing grow.

But here is the problem LAND. But we dont need huge pieces of it. Just enough to lay a 5-8 mile course. Parking doesn't need to be huge. Enough to fit about 100-150 vehicles. So if you are a memeber of a club and they have looked at land in the past just the parking wasnt big enough this might be perfect now. So start asking around and looking out for some land.

How about racing on Sunday?? There are still allot of people working on Saturday. Most dealerships this is there busy day. But a Sunday race would cure and I think add allot more people.

A 4 race format.

Mini quads at 9am (30-45min)

Jr quads at 10am (1:00)

C, Beginners, Utility, Woman,Sr, Super Sr, Golden Girls 11:30am (1:30)

Vet, B, A, AA 1:30 pm (2:00, AA 2:00 plus 1 lap)

Possible a 10-14 race series would be nice. But here is going to be the kicker. You must work one race to be eligible for year end points. But you could work it where you work the early race and still race the afternoon race or vice versa. Say you have to earn 1 work credit for year end.

Mini race be worth .25

Jr worth .25

Early race .50

Late race .50

Did you notice I left something out?? Thats right PRACTICE, NO PRACTICE eyebrows: eyebrows:

Once again these are just ideas. These are mine, what are yours??

Roy I better see your comments here pretty soon :D

this all sounds good but, what if the clubs are just not interested in another event ? or if they are, and this series gets started and after the first year clubs decide there is not enough profit or time or whatever to continue with the quads then we would be left with no where to race.perhaps it could be made that if a club does a 2 wheel even they must do a 4wheel event?
and what about fitting mx, motorcycle harescramble, quad harescramble and enduro in the same season and not be on the same weakend?
your ideas look good doug but i think there should be a fun run saturday evening after each race for those who just kike to cruz. and i like the no practic with a 2 plus hour race there is no need for practice. i know someone else has to have some thoughts on this. lets here them.

There has been over 125 hits on this subject. But not many replies. Come on guys you need to speak up and voice some opinions and thoughts.

I am all for a one day event. I understand the opening up for rides. But that is asking for a whole different type of group to come in and I dont really think we want that.

I agree most of these clubs will not want anything to do with this. But if the make is a rule that is they book land for a Bike race then they must also book it for a quad race on another date.

Then we will have to come up with a group for plotting the course and running the races. I still have the software and the barcode scanner but the display I sold to FTR. But thats ok, thats all we need to get started.

I know you cant hold a Enduro or MX on same weekend as H/S. So I really think we need to shoot for the Enduro and open weekends. Belive it or not there are actually several weekends that are open.

Now a different side of this is still going with a one day race on saturday and have a FUN RUN on sundays. This will need to be a NO ALCOHOL events. No these can draw a HUGE crowd. But with that crowd somes allot of policing. Apollo gets big crowds at there events. So many they have had to limit this. But this would cause for several miles of trail and as I said ALLOT of policing. To me this is almost to much of a headache than its worth. But that is just my opinion.

Well now, I understand the new FTR Quad series proposal passed at the meeting on Saturday!!!

Once it passes through the other procedures we will have 2 quad series!!

When the new one is standing on its own I think the old one will be dissolved!

You know what that means......

Join a club....if you're not already in one...Find out what it takes to put on a race!!!

It's happening.....are you ready???:) jump2: :p

I see opportunity!

yes opportunity...

but also a chance to be a part of something that I have no doubt will be very big and very special!!!

This is going to take a concerted effort to take this to the next level. Think about the FTR setup....area directors, reps, youth reps, peewee reps etc. Know anyone that might be interested in these positions?

The plus is and there are many...those that love to ride both bikes and quads have even more choices now to ride!!!

I once had an instructor who's motto was: "The more things you drive/ride the better driver/rider you become... Diversity is one of the greatest teachers!" ;)

The overall consensus in FTR is not that quads are bad. There are a few members that don't like them and that's it.
Last year FTR offered to help get a new series going for quads. That is now coming to fruition. This is going to be a challenge that many will not take. That is the sad part and why it will be an enourmos up- hill battle. People just want to ride. Not work to make the ride possible. Due to the # of members FTR has, the volunteer rate is enough to make each event possible. However, some times races are cancelled or postponed due to lack of voluteers. And other reasons.
FTR is like the mother ship to all the clubs in Florida. The hosting club of an event is responsible for making the event possible.
Are there any quad clubs in Florida?
There is a government orginization that helps form clubs. Any club. They will also help obtain grants. That orginization is...wait I have to run out to my truck... The National Off- Highway Vehicle Conservation Council, Inc.
They will help you almost all the way. The website is http://www.nohvcc.org
They will send you a free package helping get started.
Here is the hang up.
I said they would help ALMOST all the way. I sent for the kit and told all my riding friends and set up a meeting at my house. I bought drinks and food. Not one person showed up! A one man club is what I was looking at. I called them and they're women said they were out riding!! The NOHVCC can't get your friends to come. It takes some serious dedication. Most of the time there is NO PROFIT for YOU. It is for the club. Anybody thinking about making money had better be a promoter of sorts.
Okay I said eneough. Find sombody with some land. They stand to make the most money out of the whole deal. You lease the land from them for a month or two. Membership dues, entry fees, and parking are some ways to recoup and profit for a club. Go form some clubs. That is what gives FTR it's strength.
In the meantime support FTR and your right to ride--join!:)

Hi Mark,
I took today off so I can drive 8 hrs up to Chipley! Loaded everything up last night and convinced a friend to ride up with me.
My usual group is the Taylor twins and their family. They all opted out on this one. Truth be told, their women opted them out. So that's three Veteran riders that WON'T be there.
I finally got my DS running again. I missed the last race and it killed me. I went from 8th in the points to 10th.
I will be driving my 96 Ford F150. It is an Eddie Bauer, green and gold, short bed.
I am part of Pit Patrol. These days I have to do it on foot as my Recon was stolen.

Let me put in my 2 cents really quick, if this whole quads series thing happens i personally dont think that turnout will be big enough for it to go on. There are already alot of series' going on in florida (fmxs, ftr, personal track series' events, etc.), not to mention that FTR does the three different types, xc, mx, and enduro. Most people like to run multiple series' and events like doing mx, and xc. Or have family or friends that do one or the other and both, so those people are gone almost every weekend trying to race or taking relatives and/or family to do other types of racing. I think that the only way that it would work out is if it was run during the summer if this series is for xc only. I race Mx and my family does xc, so we hardly get a weekend off. I think that 2 wheelers and atvs alike just need to quit complaining and realize the fact that they are racing offroad and that the tracks get rough sometimes, and that is what racing offroad is about, if your going to complain about whoops, quad ruts, etc. then you need to race on pavement, those tracks may stay smooth enough for ya. But the fact is tracks get rough and thats why we have suspension, its supposed to be fun and people are taking it further than needed, and realize the fact that your racing/riding for fun and not gaining any money, (just a piece of wood with somebody elses picture on it and you finishing place) by racing any of these events, its just another sport to do on the weekend, no different than being in a soccer or baseball league, etc...its just a hobby for fun, if you want to get serious then go to gncc's or gnc races. I think that the FTR series is fine how it is and people need to just ride and have fun, and get used to the fact that riding offroad is meant to get rough, and have obstacles.
