At the last hs in Palatka, I hurt my tranny. So I missed the qs and spent the weekend pulling my engine out. It is in my dining room/shop right now. I looked at my quad tonight before calling it quits and thought " what have I gotten myself into?"
I sure hope I can remember how everything goes back in. And thats just getting the engine out and back in!
Now I have the valve cover off and the cams out. I am going to remove the head and jug tomorrow night after work. Then I will work on splitting the case. That means a lot of work taking a bunch of other things apart. I just hope I can remember how everything goes back together.
Hopefully my parts will be in on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. That leaves Wed night and Thursday night to put the engine back together. Friday night and Saturday I can work on getting it back in and hopefully making it to Okeechobee.

Sounds like a plan, but Brian, I hope you have the repair manual with you so you can have a gide how to put the things back together, if you don't, write down step by step, sometimes things look really easy, but when it comes to get them back together is a different story, timing, valve adjustments, bolts torque, are just some of the spects to take on consideration.

Hope this help

I have the manual, but it is kind of vague. I was just looking at all the wires and things hanging and a big empty spot where the engine goes.

Just take your time, it shouldn't be that crazy, but takes time to do it carefully, you don't want to brake anything, good luck

Here is the internal guts that make up the 48 hp pig.
I got scared when I popped the cases apart, a washer fell from somewhere. I didn't know where from. I thought " this is what I was talking about!"
But I found out where it goes :)
Here it is Friday and I still do not have parts. Tomorrow will never happen. So I am resigned to just going. I will take some pictures. I gotta go to that meeting Saturday night anyway. jump2:

It's Tuesday night. A week and 4 days later and still no parts. I called the dealer this afternoon and he said " I made a mistake and I ordered them today. They'll be here Friday."
AGGHHH!!
At least he told me the truth instead of some crazy lie.
I just hope my short term memory doesn't let me down. Although with the time it's taking to get the parts, it might be long term memory I need.

I almost went to prison today. j/k
I got a call today that my parts were in.
I get there and he forgot to order the gaskets!?? So, I came home depressed. I put the forks in and everything seems to be fine. I compared them to the old ones. The old ones do have some wear. I am glad I am doing this. It is, in a wierd way, just as fun as riding. My heart beats almost as hard! I guess the true test will be later next week. The gaskets will be here Tuesday. jump2:

OKAY!
I got the gasgets in and put the engine back together. I would like to thank the inventor of the hammer! just kidding. This thing went back together pretty smoothly.
I finished up at 1:30am. I went to bed and had a repetitive dream. I kept dreaming I was installing the clutch basket and torquing the nut down and then putting the clutch disks in. Over and over and over.
I woke up and thought about the dream and realized I did not bend the washer up against the nut I torqued to 133ft lbs that holds the clutch basket in. I skipped over that and went to the disks.
I tore into it and fixed it yesterday after work.
Now all I have to do is get somebody to help me lift it intoi the frame. The damn thing is heavy!
I want to go to the race but I need to get this thing back together as it is for sale and I am getting some calls. So I think I might load it up and work on it there. It is only hooking everything up at this point. I think by Saturday afternoon/night, I'll be hitting the starter button! :-o

OKAY!! Saturday afternoon and I hit the starter button for the first time.
Cranked right up!
Don't know what to do at this point? Load up and drive down to a soggy night out inthe tent? Or stay home and wait for morning??

Thank you for cheering me on through my engine breakdown. I really appreciate it.
Getting it back together was so easy. It was just really scary because it was all new to me. I like doing the work myself because of a few reasons. I like a challenge. I like to know it is done right, according to me, through forums I have found with real builders that are willing to share knowledge.
Hopefully I will find a Yamaha site that has good people with hands on experience.
Today I am sad. No quad now. I don't know if I can afford a new one, but I am going to try this week.
Pura Vida!, Luis!
See you in Gainsville!
