I think I am screwed. I got home Sunday and cleaned my quad. I went to start it and found the choke would not budge. It is stuck in the operating position. So I took it off and there was sand in it. The slide was making not so nice sounds as the sand was scraping around.
I noticed on my last lap the throttle seemed to stick a little.
So I started to clean the carb and dropped the jet neele and the throttle valve plate bending both. Nice.
So now I am going to order those things tomorrow and have them overnighted. Should cost me a rib.
I have so little knowledge of this, I just hope I can fix it before Saturday/Seminole.
I think the reason I had so much dust in there is because there is a vent tube that goes into the airbox. It was not attached leaving a nice nickel size hole in the box.

Brian,
That is one of the reasons that I run a pro-design intake system and a double foam filter, if you are running a stock yfz set-up ditch it now and get a good foam filter systen (not a K&N) sorry to hear about your bad luck and good luck getting it fixed.....

Why not K+N with an Outerwears? Nothing can get through and they're much easier to clean.

Where can I find that set-up, Willis?
Anyone have an extra carb they can loan me for Saturday?

I cleaned the carb and put everything back on and it will not start. I puuled the plug and it looked okay, but I will get a new one today. I can see fuel squirting into the carb. I have spark, but it seemed weak.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, my time is running out.
I got the filter yesterday. My Presicion stabilizer came in yeaterday, too.
I have had the battery on a tender all night and will leave it on until I come home from work this afternoon.
Oh, it backfired while trying to start it? Like the timing was wrong or could my valves need adjusting?

Go with a fresh plug and a new back up plug too.
What color is the spark? Blue or yellow?
Did you reassemble your carb correctly?
Could there be water in the system somehow when you washed it?
Is you battery filled with the original acid or distilled water? Avoid tap water out of the faucet because it contains minerals that collect at the bottom of the battery cells and shorts out the lead plates killing the individual cells which leads to the death of your battery.
Valves are usually adjusted on set intervals. How many hours do you have and when was the last time you had your valves adjusted. Tight valves do make it hard to start.

Make sure you have all of the wires, hoses, stuff, etc., hooked up correctly. You may have missed a plug in somewhere or overlooked it. Sometimes, when you tug on a wire it will disconnect or separate inside and you won't even know it. All of these things work together to make the YFZ run correctly.

I am pulling out my hair. It seems like it sure wants to start. I thought it was going to just a minute ago, but no.
I bought a couple of plugs today and had the battery charging all night and day. It cranks strong. The spark is Blue.
It only has about 20 hrs on it total as it is new.
The crankcase breather hose was NOT attached from Yamaha. I never took the airbox out before and never noticed the hose was not connected. Only after removing the airbox did I see that this was not connected. The airbox and filter were caked with dust and dirt. The carb had dust in it, too. I took the carb off and cleaned it real good. I put it back together correctly and can see fuel squirting inside.

Weel unless I am able to figure this out tonight after work, I won't be at Seminole. This the second race there I ... no, third race I will miss there. I crashed 2 weekes before the race there in May of last year. Then the QS this year due to broken DS. Now this. Maybe something is trying to tell me not to go!

You are a real funny guy, Mike.
Didn't see you on the line yesterday? You should have come. AND ATE MY YAMAHA DUST! LOL!
I don't know what the heck the deal was, but my friend said to try pull starting it. After I was going to set it on fire, I gave in and pulled it about 3 feet and it fired up! Sometimes you have to think outside of the box.

How do you do that on the starting line? Ha, just bustin your chops. With my new house getting under way I havent even seen my quad in a couple of weeks, But my new 40x80 work/race shop is done and the benches and cabinets are going in this week when I finish them and my wife said I can go out and play then.
